Return To Milan

Carlo returns to Milan with his parents, who had been in London for work. Milan becomes the home of his childhood and youth.

EducationCarlo attends nursery at the Parco Pagani municipal nursery school in Milan.

His condition deteriorates rapidly. He is taken to the De Marchi clinic in Milan, where he is diagnosed with fulminant M3 acute leukemia.
Transfer To Monza

Carlo is moved to San Gerardo Hospital in Monza for intensive treatment as doctors struggle to respond to the aggressiveness of the disease.
Sacraments Of The Sick

Conscious of his approaching death, Carlo asks to receive the Anointing of the Sick and Holy Communion. He offers his sufferings for the pope and the Church.

On October 11, Carlo lapses into a coma due to a cerebral hemorrhage caused by leukemia. Doctors declare him clinically dead at 5:00 p.m. His heart stops beating the next morning, October 12, 2006, at 6:45 a.m.
Funeral In Milan

Carlo’s funeral is held at Santa Maria Segreta in Milan. The church is so crowded that many mourners must remain outside.
